The word “Hootenanny” was used by Pete Seeger in the 1940s when he and Woody Guthrie began gathering people, young and old, to sing together. They defined a Hootenanny as a “rip-roaring party, a blow-out, a wingding.” No registration necessary, drop in as you can. For more information contact Liz Rog (382-8013 or decorahevents@gmail.com).

Come learn songs that tell the stories of our past: immigrants, pioneers, Native Americans, the underground railroad, labor unions, women’s liberation, Civil Rights, the peace movement, and more--a really fun way to learn old, interesting, and important stories. We’ll talk a little about the history around the songs, but mostly we’ll just have a great time singing. Take home the lyrics and tunes and sing them your whole life. No singing expertise required whatsoever.
