Our Adult Visual Art Programs offer many ways for adults to revive and nurture their creative spirit. All skill levels welcome! Adult classes and workshops are open to students age 16 and above.

Mosaics
DATE: September 14-October 19
TIME: Mondays 6:30-8:30pm
INSTRUCTOR: Linda Elkins
COST: $60 + $20 materials fee
Together we will explore the popular artistic technique of transforming trash into treasure. Give new life to broken tiles, dinnerware, glass, and small metal treasures as you turn them into beautiful objects. Feel free to start salvaging discarded items. We will begin with a small design for warm up then go on to a larger project such as a tabletop or shelf.

Practical Printmaking
DATE: September 10-October 15
TIME: Thursdays 6:30-8:30pm
INSTRUCTOR: Rachelle Branum
COST: $60 + $30 materials fee
Step aside Martha Stewart…ArtHaus will teach you new ways to tap into your creative side and do some practical projects exploring the art of transfer. Design your own stationary, stamp your original designs on fabric to create a set of sheets, napkins or a tablecloth, learn how to block print and create new artwork for your home. Explore a variety of printing techniques you’ll be able to use again and again.

SHOCK VALUE: Appreciating Contemporary Art
DATE: November 2–December 7
TIME: Mondays 7:00-8:30pm

Do museum visits leave you perplexed? Are you comfortable with the large canvases of Monet but struggle to find meaning in a neon sculpture or a canvas covered in black paint? Then this is the class for you. Together we will look at the work of several artists from the past fifty years and explore how their works are relevant to current society as well as past art history. The class includes a tour of a local private art collection. Bring yourself, a friend, and an open mind!

MUDPIES FOR GROWN-UPS: Handbuilding with Clay
DATE: October 29-December 10 (no class November 26)
TIME: Thursdays 6:30-8:30pm
INSTRUCTOR: Jenna Haug
COST: $60 + $30 materials fee
This class is open to new and returning students alike. As long as you don’t mind a little dirt under your nails, come explore the art of ceramics with local sculptor, Jenna Haug. Jenna will introduce you to the properties of clay and guide you through the process of molding and sculpting earth into both decorative and functional original artworks of your own! Potential projects include creating functional vessels to be used as vases, constructing molds to cast functional dishware, designing and building your own bird bath or fountain base, or creating indoor or outdoor decorative tiles. Enjoy a demonstration by local potter, Elisabeth Maurland and tour of her private studio during one of our class sessions.
