Our Adult Visual Art Programs offer many ways for adults to revive and nurture their creative spirit. All skill levels welcome! Adult classes and workshops are open to students age 16 and above.

PHOTOGRAPHY 101: Get To Know Your Point-And-Shoot Camera

DATE: September 7- October 12
TIME: Tuesdays 6:00-8:30pm
INSTRUCTOR: Julie Strom
COST: $90 + $20 materials fee
LOCATION ArtHaus Studio

Don't be intimidated! You can be the next Ansel Adams! This course will walk you though the basic controls on your camera and help you understand how to use them more effectively. Photographer and instructor, Julie Strom, will teach you to compose and capture the image you want, and offer tips for filing and storing. This course is intended for novice users with point-and-shoot digital cameras.

PHOTGRAPHY AND YOUR DIGITAL SLR CAMERA

DATE: September 9- October 21 (no class Sept. 23)
TIME: Thursdays 6:00-8:30pm
INSTRUCTOR: Julie Strom
COST: $90 + $20 materials fee
LOCATION ArtHaus Studio

This course will demystify the controls available to you with your digital SLR (single lens reflex) camera. Experienced photographer and instructor, Julie Strom, will discuss shutter and aperture, composition and lighting, as you shoot together and on your own. Special interest topics will be covered as time allows. Please provide your own digital single lens reflex camera, we'll provide the instruction, and your artistic eye will supply the rest!

WATERCOLOR WORKSHOP

DATE: September 25
TIME: Saturday 9am-5pm
INSTRUCTOR: Tom Sheppard
COST: $70 + $30 materials fee
LOCATION ArtHaus Studio

The area in which we live is rich in color and natural beauty, perfect inspiration for painting… especially this time of year! Whether you have taken a painting class before or not, Tom will work with you to further your understanding of the properties of watercolor painting and how to use the materials to their full potential. If Mother Nature cooperates, students may spend part of the workshop painting outside, en plein aire. Whether you are inspired by traditional landscapes, still-life interiors, or abstract shapes and patterns, you will walk away from this class with an enhanced knowledge of the medium and a desire to keep painting.

BOOKMAKING WORKSHOP

DATE: October 23-24
TIME: Saturday 9am-5pm; Sunday 10-3pm
INSTRUCTOR: Linda Elkins
COST: $90 + $40 materials fee
LOCATION ArtHaus Studio

Join local bookmaking artist, Linda Elkins, for this unique workshop. Create your own one-of-a-kind book. Delight your creative side while exploring the fantastic world of silk-screen, collagraph, monoprints, and collage. Create and share prints, adding other embellishments and producing mixed media works for your handmade book. All skill levels are welcome.

EXPLORING CLAY IN THE STUDIO: POTTERY AND HANDBUILDING

DATE: October 25- December 6 (no class November 22)
TIME: Mondays 6:00-8:30pm
INSTRUCTOR: Rachelle Branum
COST: $90 + $40 materials fee
LOCATION The Clay Studio (207 Washington St.)

This class is open to new and returning students alike. As long as you don't mind a little dirt under your nails, come explore the art of ceramics with Rachelle Branum, owner of The (new) Clay Studio. Rachelle will introduce you to the properties of clay and guide you through the process of molding and sculpting earth into both decorative and functional artworks of your own. Using our newly acquired pottery wheels and slab roller, you will have the opportunity to explore both pottery and handbuilding. Continue your clay exploration when class is over through open studio monthly membership to the new Clay Studio!

LIFE DRAWING OPEN STUDIO

DATE: October 26-December 7 (no class November 23)
TIME: Tuesdays 6:30-8:30pm
INSTRUCTOR: Ben Moore
COST: $60 + $30 materials fee for all classes in the session (If you cannot make all the sessions there is a $15 drop-in fee per class but pre-registration is required.)
LOCATION ArtHaus Studio

This class is for students of all levels who want to sharpen their abilities to see and draw through an artist's perspective. Working from live models will allow you to improve and perfect your drawing skills of the human figure, while exploring various drawing materials including pencil, charcoal, pastel, and ink.
