FIRST FRIDAY: Irene's Minstrels In Concert

"Dreamingly charming with compelling groove," jazz singer-songwriter Irene Schroeder is considered one of the best clarinetists in the state of Iowa. Having been named after the famous Lead Belly song "Good Night Irene," she has devoted her life to bringing the clarinet back into mainstream music. She received her BM in clarinet performance with honors in 1993 from the University of Iowa, where she now teaches Bicycle Touring. Blending groove with jazz, folk and blues, her songwriting thoughtfully revolves around life, love and cycling. IRENE'S MINSTRELS offer guitar, clarinet, dobro, and three part harmonies in original songs as well as covers by artists such as Lucinda Williams, Bob Dylan, and Greg Brown.

FIRST FRIDAY: KEEP IT LOCAL! Homebrew Tasting Contest & Live Music With Michelle Lynn

Celebrate our area's beer brewers and fine musical talent. We invite you to add your home-brew to our line-up of mystery beers or offer your tasting talents in judging the local suds, accompanied by a tasty selection of local music from featured songstress, Michelle Lynn. Our sponsor, local brewery Toppling Goliath, will weigh in on the home-brew judging, and offer a sampling of their own!

BAKER LONDON PRESENTS: Kristen Ford

Kristen Ford is an indie rocker hailing from Massachusetts. She played with the Chicago band Plaid on Plaid, and more recently has performed as a solo artist. In 2009 Kristen released a full length record (Filthy Nasty) on the Many Doors label, and has played over 100 shows in 15 states and 3 countries. Her music is a high energy blend of folk, pop, reggae and country. She plays a slew of instruments and continues to evolve stylistically, growing best on stage where she glides across genres, incorporating beat boxing, looping, and improvisation into her sets. "Sounds like she was born with a guitar in her hand. A multi-instrumentalist with dozens of songs under her belt, she effortlessly glides between pop, rock and roots." - Diva Magazine
