FAMILY WORKSHOP: Handmade Clay Birdbath

DATE: September 24
TIME: Saturday 10-11:30am or 11:30am-1:00pm
INSTRUCTOR: Rachelle Branum
COST: $10/person + $20/birdbath (materials)
LOCATION: The Clay Studio, 207 Washington Street

Bring the kids to play with clay! As a family create a small birdbath to beautify your garden or patio while creating a fun family memory along the way. Artist and owner of The Clay Studio, Rachelle Branum, will teach you the properties of clay and how to explore texture as decoration while making an interesting and functional earthenware object. (Children must be accompanied by an adult.) Pre-registration is required.

ARTSTUDIO at ArtHaus

The focus of our ArtStudio classes is a process-oriented art experience in an open studio format. The studio is set up into multiple stations where children are invited to explore a wide range of art materials and techniques. The teachers provide instruction and serve as facilitators through the creative process, thereby supporting each child in their unique creative expression. Children learn to trust their own creative impulses and how to make their artistic visions a reality.

CLASSES FOR TINY TWOS AND TINY MASTERS

CLAY-PLAY FOR TINYS

AGE: 22 months-4 years (suggested age)

Enjoy your toddler while making mudpies together! Parents and kids alike will enjoy this class as you explore the properties of clay together in an instructor-facilitated clay-play class. Find out if your child is a budding sculptor while you also have an opportunity to create something of your own at The Clay Studio.

ARTSTUDIO FOR TINY MASTERS

AGE: 2-3 (suggested age)

DATE: November 3-December 15 (6 weeks)
TIME: Thursdays 9-10am

COST: $55 +$20 materials

Are you ready to send your budding artist into the studio and let someone else guide his/her creativity and do the clean up? This art exploration class is designed for children who are ready to make the transition to attending a class independently, in addition to exploring new art materials and techniques. Painting, homemade play-dough, collage, and printmaking are a few of the materials students will choose from during their studio time.

CRAZY CREATURES FOR MINI-MASTERS

AGE: 4-5
DATE: September 12-November 7 (8 weeks, no class October 10)
TIME: Mondays 3:30-4:45pm

Explore all kids of artist materials and methods while creating silly sculptures, miraculous masks, and much more using both fine art and recycled materials. The first 30 minutes of class will be exploring different art stations in the open studio format and the second half of the class will be a lesson-based mixed-media project.

Does your child like to play in the dirt? Here is the perfect outlet for your inquisitive child! This course is designed to introduce young children to the properties of clay while allowing them to explore the handbuilding process. Prepare your child to get messy and have a great time! ARTHAUS OFFERS WALKING SCHOOL BUS

An ArtHaus instructor will lead a walking school bus from John Cline Elementary and Northeast Iowa Montessori for students ages 5-8 enrolled in after-school classes on Mondays-Thursdays. (No walking school bus on Early Dismissal Days.)Please let us know when registering if your child would like a place on the bus!

CLASSES FOR LITTLE MASTERS

AGES 6-8

Your child is sure to enjoy this exploration of art combining open studio time and a teacher-led lesson exploring new artists each week. We will start the class with a 45-minute open studio time where students are encouraged to explore a variety of art-making stations. The combination approach to class time encourages in depth exploration of media and techniques and allows students to define their own personal expression while being inspired by the works of past and living artists.

Are you tired of picking play-dough out of your carpet but think you might be raising the next Michelangelo? Let Little Masters Art Studio help you foster your budding sculptor or potter in a clay-friendly environment! Students will learn different hand building methods used around the world and will get to try their hand(s) at a pottery wheel. The only pre-requisite is enjoying being dirty! New and returning students are welcome! New lessons to learn.

WINTER ART CAMP

AGE: 6-8 & 9-12

COST: $120 + $65 materials if registered by December 5 (includes all materials & snacks; add $15 if registering after December 5)

Spend your second week of winter vacation creating artworks inspired by artistic traditions around the globe as we split our day between the ArtHaus Studio and The Clay Studio. Bring a water bottle, a packed lunch, and art room appropriate attire. We'll supply the creative art spaces, fantastic teaching artists, walking school bus between studios, and snacks. At the end of the week students will showcase their globally-inspired artwork in the ArtHaus Studio gallery! New and returning campers are invited to attend. New lessons to learn!

Create outdoors using a combination of clay, nature, and man-made objects. Explore with line, shape, scale, texture and negative space to bring energy to your art. Then capture your artworks when they are most alive with photography. Artists of the Eco-Art movement will inspire us in this multimedia class.

PRINTMAKING STUDIO

AGE: 9-12
DATE: November 3-December 15 (6 weeks, no class Thanksgiving)

Come explore the art of transfer! We will explore several kinds of printmaking methods from screenprinting to blockprinting to printing with gelatin. At the end of class you will have created original artworks, notecards, even a couple of t-shirt designs! New and returning students welcome.

PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP

Tired of snapping photos with your finger in the frame? This course will walk you though the basic controls on your camera and help you understand how to use them more effectively. Whether you have a Digital SLR or a point and shoot camera, photographer and instructor, Julie Strom, will teach you to compose and capture the image you want. All skill levels welcome. Please bring a camera.

SILKSCREENING T-SHIRTS

AGE: 12-16
DATE: October 20 and 27
TIME: Thursdays 6-8:30pm
INSTRUCTOR: Lea Lovelace
COST: $40+$25 materials fee
LOCATION: ArtHaus Studio

Design a couple of one-of-kind t-shirts and learn the art of silkscreen in two sessions! We will teach you a simple method of creating a silkscreen stencil design that can be transferred to a t-shirt and then we will experiment with a three-step process of transferring original drawings onto screens with drawing fluid, which can then be transferred to clothing or paper again and again! No experience necessary. Please indicate your t-shirt size and color preference(s) when you register.
